A URL (Uniform Resource Locator) is similar to a traditional telephone number. Every document on the WWW has an unique URL address, therefore every document can be viewed instantly if its URL is known. Instead of "1-800-555-1234," the WWW uses addresses like:

To practice using a URL:
1 Press the "Open" button
2. Type "http://www.art.uiuc.edu/kam/" on the long box and press "Open."
3. You should now be at the Krannert Art Museum home page. If not, check spelling and symbols and try again.
